Seasonal Farmers Markets and What to Buy in Bellingham
I love the Bellingham Farmer’s Market and all the other markets that happen here in Bellingham! I think the 9(ish) Saturdays of the year the Depot isn’t hosting the market feel so long. Luckily, 37 Saturdays of the year are filled with delightful fresh happenings!
Why shop at a market? That’s easy: flavor, freshness, and nutrition, you can support local farms and sustainability, and rotating variety — every visit is different! If you’ve been reading this blog, you’ll know I’m not the one who cooks at our house but The Chef loves every veggie, honey, sauces, ferments we’ve ever purchased and I know I love eating any dish with Farmer’s Market yummies! Plus, even if you’re not into cooking or any of that stuff, so many of these markets have AMAZING snacks and maker-items. Go for the snackies.
I am going to share the Market I visit the most in this blog, The Bellingham Farmer’s Market, but be sure to check out my list of all the other markets across Whatcom!
Bellingham Farmer’s Market
Located at the Bellingham Depot Market Square (1100 Railroad Ave, Bellingham, WA 98225) they take over the parking lot and pop up three rows of tents for vendors and there is an entire row dedicated to hot, fresh, food.
Truly a treasure to the community, rain or shine, it takes place on Saturdays from 10AM - 2PM April - December, plus once a month during the winter months.
I think the Farmer’s Market is truly what gets me out of bed on Saturdays. There are always new things to look at, a variety of vendors but staples that I can count on to be there. I love the flow and flux of people that are there. One of my personal favorites who shows here and there is Happy Valley Carnivores — the one-stop booth for mythical looking carnivorous plants. Another favorite pit-stop is Buu Chan for their garlic crisps and other Asian-inspired sauces, ferments and more, bonus? They use local, organic produce!
